All the Fun at Malaga Feria 2015

Malaga Fair dates have been confirmed as 15th to 22nd August for 2015 and preparations are well underway to make this years celebrations really special.

There are two parts to the fair, the first being the week long street party centering around Calle Larios which starts to get going at midday until around 7pm.

Expect to see this normally elegant and charming area decorated with ribbons, flags and paper lanterns. Locals dressed in traditional Flamenco take to the streets on and around Calle Larios to dance, drink ‘Fino’ (sherry) and generally have a good time.

The first time I ever came to Malaga was on opening day of the feria and I didn’t know what had hit me as I stumbled across crowded streets not really knowing where to go.

Bars were packed to the rafters, women and children dressed immaculately dancing Flamenco wherever the mood took them and horse and carriages paraded proudly around.

I soon realised that Andalucian’s are very proud of their heritage and definitely know how to party.

At 7pm the street parties finish and buses are laid on from the city centre to take party goers over to the precinct near to the Palacio de Congresos building just on the outskirts of the city.

At around 9pm the evening party kicks off and huge ‘casetas’ (marquees) do a good job keeping everyone refreshed with food and drink;  mojitos are a plenty and with some at just €3, they go down a treat.

Just beyond is an array of lights, deafening music and fairground rides with huge Ferris wheels, roller coasters as well as rides for the little ones.  Don’t worry if you arrive late to the party as it’s still going strong until the sun comes up.

You can’t help to get drawn into the atmosphere here, everyone is in good spirits and every night is like a Saturday night.

If you happen to be in Malaga or nearby during the week of 18th to 22nd August then you must dedicate one day and night to this fair, I promise you, it’s like no other.
